About VOXA

Seventy years of voice science, handed back to the person it belongs to.

Our mission

For seventy years, physiologists, intelligence agencies, hospitals and technology companies have learned to read the state of the human body from the sound of a voice. Almost all of that capability ended up in someone else's hands — in a lab, an interrogation room, a call centre or a corporate cloud. VOXA exists to hand it back to the person it belongs to.

VOXA is a private, browser-based voice biomarker analysis tool for personal wellness and self-awareness. You record thirty to sixty seconds of natural speech, and VOXA turns the acoustics of your voice into a clear, honest set of indicators you can read, keep and track over time — without your recording ever being uploaded.

What VOXA does

  • Measures 12 acoustic voice biomarkers with standard signal-processing (a Fast Fourier Transform): pitch centre, pitch variability, speaking tempo, volume variability, articulation precision, breath pattern, resonance, harmonic richness, pause frequency, spectral centroid, spectral spread and energy entropy — from which the fine cycle-to-cycle perturbations engineers call jitter and shimmer are also derived.
  • Uses a deterministic engine (DHVS). The same recording always produces the same read-out. There is no hidden randomness deciding your result, which makes VOXA useful as a journal of trends. (The optional online randomness sources described in our Privacy Policy are used only by separate, clearly labelled exploratory features — never by the deterministic voice analysis.)
  • Shows exploratory biochemical-tendency estimates — neurotransmitter, hormone, mineral, vitamin and toxin-load tendencies inferred from sound, on a simple −100% to +100% balance scale. These are not laboratory measurements.
  • Organises research-linked voice patterns by strength of evidence into three tiers, with a confidence figure that never reaches 100%.
  • Optionally reads facial micro-expressions from a short video and fuses them with the voice for a steadier picture of emotional and physiological state.
  • Generates a personalised balancing soundscape — a three-minute relaxation track built from your own profile, rendered in your browser.

What VOXA is not

VOXA is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Its outputs are reproducible indicators derived from voice acoustics — directions to notice — not laboratory measurements and not diagnoses. A “low magnesium tendency”, for example, does not mean a blood test would show low magnesium. If something concerns you, the right next step is a qualified healthcare professional. Principles

PrincipleWhat it means in practice
Private by designYour voice recording and video never leave your device. VOXA extracts numeric measurements in your browser; only those are sent, encrypted, to our analysis engine, which computes your results without storing them.
ReproducibleThe same input gives the same output, so changes you see over time reflect changes in the recording — not chance.
Honest by designEvery finding is labelled as an indicator, ranked by evidence, and shown with confidence. We state our limits before you have to ask.
For you, not about youVOXA points the microphone in your hands. No advertising, no selling of data, and no analytics inside the app — website visit statistics only if you allow them.

The story behind it

We tell the full history — from the London physiologists who found the micro-tremor in the human voice, through the Cold War voice-stress machines, to today's vocal-biomarker industry — in our five-part series, The Voice Files. It is the clearest explanation of why VOXA is built the way it is.

Who's behind VOXA

VOXA is developed by Nonlinear Platform Development, an independent software venture based in Montréal, Québec, Canada (nonlinearplatform.com). The team builds privacy-first browser applications that keep people's recordings on their own devices.
